Size guide
Take four measurements once, write them down, and you will never guess a size again. All numbers below are body measurements in inches — not garment measurements — so measure yourself and match the row.
01How to measure
Use a soft measuring tape over thin clothing, not over an abaya or a jumper. Keep the tape snug — flat against you but not pulling in. Stand straight, breathe normally, and keep the tape parallel to the floor all the way round. It is much easier if someone helps.
| Measurement | Where the tape goes |
|---|---|
| Bust | Around the fullest part of the chest, over your usual bra |
| Underbust | Directly under the bust, on the rib cage where a bra band sits |
| Waist | The narrowest part of the torso, roughly one inch above the navel |
| Hips | Around the fullest part of the hips and seat, feet together |
| Height | Barefoot, back to a wall, from the floor to the top of the head |
| Abaya length | From the top of the shoulder straight down to where you want the hem |
On a phone, swipe any table sideways to see every column.
Quick tip
Save your numbers in your phone notes as bust / underbust / waist / hips / height. Send them to us on WhatsApp and we will pick the size for you.
02Abayas, kimonos & shawls
Albaari abayas are cut loose, with roughly 5 to 7 inches of ease over the body measurement — the fit is meant to skim, not follow your shape. Match your bust to the chart first; bust is the measurement that decides the size.
| Size | UK | Bust | Waist | Hips | Sleeve |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| XS | 6 | 32 – 34 | 25 – 27 | 34 – 36 | 21.5 |
| S | 8 – 10 | 34 – 36 | 27 – 29 | 36 – 38 | 22 |
| M | 12 | 36 – 38 | 29 – 31 | 38 – 40 | 22.5 |
| L | 14 | 38 – 41 | 31 – 34 | 40 – 43 | 23 |
| XL | 16 | 41 – 44 | 34 – 37 | 43 – 46 | 23.5 |
| 2XL | 18 | 44 – 47 | 37 – 40 | 46 – 49 | 24 |
| 3XL | 20 | 47 – 50 | 40 – 43 | 49 – 52 | 24.5 |
Kimonos and open abayas
Open-front kimonos and shrugs are the most forgiving thing we make. They run one size generous, so if you are on the border between two sizes, take the smaller one. Shawls are one size.
03Abaya length by height
Length is a separate choice from size. These lengths are measured from the shoulder seam to the hem and are cut to fall just above the ankle with flat shoes.
| Length | Your height | Falls at |
|---|---|---|
| 52″ | Up to 5’0″ | Ankle |
| 54″ | 5’1″ – 5’3″ | Ankle |
| 56″ | 5’4″ – 5’6″ | Ankle |
| 58″ | 5’7″ – 5’9″ | Ankle |
| 60″ | 5’10” and above | Ankle |
Prefer it fully floor-length, or shorter for everyday wear? Go one length up or down. Custom lengths are available on selected pieces — message us before ordering, and note that custom lengths are not returnable.
04Kids abayas
Children grow out of length long before they grow out of width, so match height first and use age only as a rough guide.
| Age | Height | Chest | Abaya length |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2 – 3 yrs | 34 – 38 | 21 – 22 | 26 – 28 |
| 4 – 5 yrs | 38 – 43 | 22 – 23 | 30 – 32 |
| 6 – 7 yrs | 43 – 48 | 24 – 25 | 34 – 36 |
| 8 – 9 yrs | 48 – 52 | 26 – 27 | 38 – 40 |
| 10 – 11 yrs | 52 – 56 | 28 – 29 | 42 – 44 |
| 12 – 13 yrs | 56 – 60 | 30 – 32 | 46 – 48 |
| 14 – 15 yrs | 60 – 63 | 32 – 34 | 50 – 52 |
Growing room
If your daughter is at the top of a height range, take the next size up. Two extra inches of hem is far better than an abaya she outgrows in a term.
05Innerwear — camisoles, slips & bodysuits
Innerwear is meant to sit close to the body, so there is very little ease built in. Match your bust measurement exactly rather than sizing up out of habit.
| Size | Bust | Waist | Hips |
|---|---|---|---|
| S | 30 – 34 | 24 – 28 | 33 – 37 |
| M | 34 – 38 | 28 – 32 | 37 – 41 |
| L | 38 – 42 | 32 – 36 | 41 – 45 |
| XL | 42 – 46 | 36 – 40 | 45 – 49 |
| 2XL | 46 – 50 | 40 – 44 | 49 – 53 |
Slip lengths
| Length | Suits height |
|---|---|
| 50″ | Up to 5’2″ |
| 54″ | 5’3″ – 5’7″ |
| 58″ | 5’8″ and above |
Final sale
Innerwear cannot be returned or exchanged for hygiene reasons, so please check your measurements against the chart before you order. Not sure? Ask us first.
06Bra sizes
A bra size is two things joined together: a band number from your underbust measurement, and a cup letter from the difference between your bust and your underbust. Work them out one at a time.
Step 1 — your band size
Measure firmly around your rib cage, directly under the bust. Pull the tape a little tighter than you would for other measurements; the band is what holds the weight.
| Underbust | Band (PK / UK / US) | EU | FR / ES |
|---|---|---|---|
| 26 – 28″ | 30 | 65 | 80 |
| 28 – 30″ | 32 | 70 | 85 |
| 30 – 32″ | 34 | 75 | 90 |
| 32 – 34″ | 36 | 80 | 95 |
| 34 – 36″ | 38 | 85 | 100 |
| 36 – 38″ | 40 | 90 | 105 |
| 38 – 40″ | 42 | 95 | 110 |
| 40 – 42″ | 44 | 100 | 115 |
Step 2 — your cup size
Measure loosely around the fullest part of the bust while wearing a non-padded bra. Subtract your underbust from your bust, then read the difference below.
| Difference | Cup (UK / PK) | US equivalent |
|---|---|---|
| Up to 1″ | AA | AA |
| 1″ | A | A |
| 2″ | B | B |
| 3″ | C | C |
| 4″ | D | D |
| 5″ | DD | DD / E |
| 6″ | E | DDD / F |
| 7″ | F | G |
| 8″ | FF | H |
Step 3 — put them together
Worked example
Underbust 31″ gives a band of 34. Bust 36″ minus underbust 31″ is a 5″ difference, which is a DD cup. Your size is 34DD — or 75DD in EU sizing.
Non-wired, sports & bralette sizing
| Size | Band sizes it fits | Underbust |
|---|---|---|
| S | 30A – 32B | 26 – 30″ |
| M | 32C – 34C | 30 – 32″ |
| L | 34D – 36D | 32 – 34″ |
| XL | 36DD – 38DD | 34 – 36″ |
| 2XL | 40D – 42DD | 36 – 40″ |
Signs the size is off
- Band riding up your back, or you are already on the tightest hook — go down a band size and up a cup.
- Band digging in and leaving deep marks — go up a band size and down a cup.
- Spilling over the top or sides — go up a cup, same band.
- Gaps or wrinkling in the cup — go down a cup, same band.
- Straps slipping off constantly — the band is too loose, not the straps.
Your size can change with weight, pregnancy and feeding, so it is worth re-measuring every six months or so.
07Hijabs, shawls & niqabs
Fabric sizes are given as width by length, in inches. All are one size unless the listing says otherwise.
| Style | Size | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Jersey hijab | 27″ × 70″ | Everyday wear, no pins needed |
| Georgette hijab | 28″ × 72″ | Draped and layered styles |
| Chiffon shawl | 32″ × 78″ | Fuller coverage over the chest |
| Cotton shawl | 36″ × 84″ | Loose wrapping, cooler weather |
| Instant hijab | One size | Quick wear, school and work |
| Kids hijab | 20″ × 55″ | Ages 4 – 12 |
| Niqab, single layer | 15″ × 45″ | Adjustable tie at the back |
| Niqab, double layer | 18″ × 48″ | Flip-up front panel |
| Hijab cap | Free size | Stretch band, worn underneath |
08Stuck between two sizes?
- Abayas and kimonos — take the larger size. The drape needs the room.
- Innerwear — take the smaller size. It is meant to sit close.
- Kids — take the larger size, always.
- Your bust and hips point to different sizes — follow the bust for abayas, the hips for skirts and slips.
